All's Well That Ends Well at Royal Shakespeare Theatre

2022年8月25日、Royal Shakespeare TheatreにてAll's Well That Ends Wellを観劇（2時間35分、休憩込み）。以下、ネタバレ注意です。

ヘレナの力強さが印象的でした。バートラムに振り向いてもらえなくても諦めないヘレナは、演出によって、純粋で一途な女性にも、強くて賢い女性にもなり得ます（突然の比較ですが、『から騒ぎ』の二人のヒロインで例えると、前者がヒアロー、後者がビアトリスのようだと思いました）。これまで私が見てきたヘレナは前者ばかりでしたが、今回は後者だったと思います。新しいヘレナ像を見せてもらえました。

On 25 August 2022, I saw and heard All's Well That Ends Well by William Shakespeare at Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The most impressive thing for me was the strong characterisation of Helena. Helena, who is rejected by Bertram but never gives up his love, can be a pure and single-minded woman or a wise and strong woman (I think the former is like Hero and the latter is like Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing). As for Helena, I have seen the former several times but it was my first time to see the latter.

夏の夜の夢＠彩の国さいたま芸術劇場大ホール

2024年12月14日、彩の国さいたま芸術劇場大ホールにて『夏の夜の夢』を観劇（2時間20分、休憩込み）。惚れ薬の魔力を解く場面が印象的でした。ライサンダーの心をヘレナからハーミアに戻すために、魔力を解く草の汁がライサンダーの目に絞られますが、今回の上演では、ディミートリアスの目にも絞られていたので驚きました。それでは二人がハーミアを取り合う状態に戻るのではないかと思いましたが、魔力が解かれた後も、ディミートリアスはヘレナを慕っていました。シェイクスピアの原文は、ディミートリアスとヘレナが結ばれるのは真実の愛ではなく惚れ薬のためではないかという疑問が残る終わり方ですが、その疑問に対する演出だったのではないかと思います。『夏の夜の夢』が始まる前の話として、ディミートリアスとヘレナは恋仲にあったので、その時点まで戻るという意味で、魔力が解かれたのではないかと想像します。 On 14 December 2024, I saw and heard A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare at Saitama Arts Theater in Saitama. The most interesting scene was when Puck used the herb to amend the confusion among Athenian lovers. In Shakespeare's text, Puck crushes it into Lysander's eyes to make him unspelled. However, in this production, Puck used the herb for both Lysander and Demetrius. I thought that might lead them to love Hermia if both of them were unspelled, but Demetrius still loved Helena even after Puck's use of the herb. ロミオとジュリエット＠新国立劇場小劇場

2024年12月7日、新国立劇場小劇場にて『ロミオとジュリエット』を観劇（1時間50分、休憩なし）。新国立劇場演劇研修所第18期生の公演でした（修了者も2名出演していました）。以下、ネタバレ注意です。現代社会の暗い側面を映したような演出でした。一番驚いたのは、ロザラインの名前が出てこなかったところです。それにより、冒頭のロミオの憂鬱が、恋によるものではなく、現代の若者の閉塞感のように見えました。他の登場人物にも、やり場のない思いが表れていたと思います。例えば、暴力を止める大公自身が暴力を振るうので、どうしようもない社会という感じがしました。このような演出は、2021年にロンドンのグローブ座で観た Romeo and Juliet と似ていると思いました。どちらの上演も、人間の愚かさや現代社会の問題を突き付けてくるようなものだったので、見ていて悲しくなりましたが、それは嫌な上演という意味ではなく、観客が考えたり行動したりするきっかけになる可能性があるという点で、良い上演だったと思います。 (Caution: contains a spoiler.) 天保十二年のシェイクスピア＠日生劇場

2024年12月21日、日生劇場にて『天保十二年のシェイクスピア』を観劇（3時間35分、休憩込み）。シェイクスピアの全作品が散りばめられた作品なので、各場面にクライマックスがあるように思いました。そのような中で、作品全体のクライマックスで鏡が出てきたことには、象徴的な意味があったと思います。『天保十二年のシェイクスピア』の終盤では、悪役への復讐として、その醜さを直視させるために鏡が使われていました。シェイクスピアの戯曲には、対立、反逆、狂気、取り違え、嫉妬など様々な要素がありますが、作者・井上ひさしにとってのシェイクスピアは、とりわけ"reflection"がキーワードなのかと思いました。日本語の適訳が思い浮かばないのですが、芝居が世相を映す、観客が登場人物を見て自分を見つめ直す機会を得る、という意味での「映す／映る」ということです。そのことに気付けたので、今回の観劇は興味深いものでした。 2020年に観劇してから4年以上経ち、シェイクスピア作品への直接的・間接的言及が分かる箇所は増えました。それでも、37作品全てに気付くには至りませんでした。まだまだ修行が必要だと思いました(笑) On 21 December 2024, I saw and heard Tempo 12-nen no Shakespeare by Hisashi Inoue at Nissay Theatre in Tokyo.
