このブログを見てくれてありがとうございます。Rena Endoです。日本に住みながら、イギリスの大学院の博士課程（ディスタンスラーニングコース）に所属しています。

It's Rena Endo, living in Japan but attending a British university by distance learning.

Research / Activity

イギリス演劇を研究する大学院生・大学講師として、劇場と教室を繋ぐ存在になりたいです。その目標のための、学会発表や論文投稿、劇場でのレクチャーについて、お知らせや報告をしていきます。

I'm a PhD student studying the English drama and a Japanese theatre industry. I also teach at universities. My ambition is to be active at a classroom and at a theatre; I encourage students to enjoy stage productions (in addition to studying by turning a page), and I give academic (but not-too-formal) lectures to theatre enthusiasts at a theatre. I write about such activities in this blog.

Theatre

イギリス演劇以外にも、色々なジャンルの舞台芸術を鑑賞することが好きです。観劇の感想を投稿していきます。日本語と英語の両方で書いていくので、英語圏の友人にも読んでもらえたら嬉しいです。日本にはこんな舞台作品があるんだよ！と伝えたいです。

I enjoy seeing various kinds of theatre productions. When I see a performance, I write about what I see and how I think about it. The posts are written both in Japanese and in English, so I'll be happy if English-speaking people read my blog. Especially, I'd like to tell what happens in a Japanese theatre industry these days.

Interest

趣味は美術鑑賞、音楽鑑賞、旅行です。それらについても時々投稿します。

I also like going to art exhibitions, going to concerts, and travelling. This blog includes posts about them.

Study Abroad / Living Abroad

2022年まで留学をしていていました。その際、留学（修士課程）についてと海外生活（イギリス）について投稿していました。帰国後は、これらのカテゴリーについては更新をしていませんが、投稿は残しています。これから留学を考えている方や、イギリスでの生活に興味のある方は、ぜひ覗いてみてください。…と言いつつ、博士課程に在籍している間、現地のキャンパスを訪れることが時々あるので、これらのカテゴリーについてもたまに更新するかもしれません。

I lived in the UK as an MA student a few years ago. At that time, I wrote about studying and living abroad. I don't post to these categories anymore since I'm in Japan now, but I the past posts are still there - I don't delete them. I hope those posts would be read by those who think of studying abroad and those who are interested in life in England. Well, actually, perhaps I'll post to these categories too, because I occasionally visit the UK for my PhD study (it's not a long-term stay, though).

リチャード三世＠PARCO劇場

2026年5月30日、PARCO劇場にて『リチャード三世』を観劇（3時間、休憩込み）。リチャード三世は、残虐な悪役として描かれることも、狡猾な政治家のように描かれることもあるキャラクターです。そんな中、今回のリチャード三世は、悪役、国王、政治家といった枠組みに当てはめなくても「言葉や表情や演技で人を動かせることに気持ち良くなっていった人物」に見えました。「なっていった」と書いたのは、場面が進むにつれて段階的にそう見えたからです。リチャード三世を演じた吉田羊さんは、2024年にハムレットを演じていて、その時にも声の使い分けが特徴的だという印象を受けました。声や表情の使い分けは、登場人物が嘘をついたり、ふりをしたりする場合、普段の演技と比べて二重に大事なものとなりますが、それが上手かったと思います。 On 30 May 2026, I saw and heard Richard III by William Shakespeare at Parco Theater in Tokyo. Richard can be labelled as a perfect villain, politically wise leader, and so on according to its direction in each production. This time, however, I could see Richard out of such framework, and I found Richard a person who simply enjoys the fact that he can manipulate others by words, expressions, and pretending. An actor who played Richard this time was good at changing her tone of voice depending on scenes when she played Hamlet in 2024 too. SONG WRITERS＠シアタークリエ

2024年11月21日、シアタークリエにてミュージカル『SONG WRITERS』を観劇（2時間35分、休憩込み）。2015年の再演を観て以来、9年ぶりの再々演でした。以下、ネタバレ注意です。まずなるべく客観的に感想を書くと、物語の構成が面白かったです。ミュージカルの上演を目指すソングライターたちの話ですが、劇中劇の位置付けが、これから上演するもの（現在や近い未来のこと）ではない、というところが興味深かったです。劇中劇としてつくられるミュージカルの内容は、それをつくる登場人物の一人が既に経験していたことで（ある登場人物が自分の経験をもとに劇中劇のミュージカルをつくろうとしていたということです）、劇中劇が過去の出来事として位置付けられるところが珍しいと思いました。このような構成なので、劇中劇のミュージカルと、過去の出来事が交差するのですが、それはミュージカルや演劇と相性の良い手法だと思います。というのは、ミュージカルや演劇といったメディアは、劇中劇、回想シーンともに、照明や舞台セットを変えたりして、別の枠の中で提示することが多くあるからです。次に主観的に書くと、脚本家、作曲家、出演者が私の好きな人たちばかりだったので、とても好みの上演でした。2019年に観たミュージカル『怪人と探偵』と、一部のキャスト・スタッフが同じだったので、似たものを感じました。どちらの上演も心に残っています。両作品とも日本発のオリジナルミュージカルです。日本のミュージカル界には輸入作品が多い中、いちからミュージカルを創作する方々の熱意には心が動かされます。また観たいです。 (Caution: contains a spoiler.) Liverpool

リバプールを旅行しました。写真を中心にお届けします。港町の雰囲気を楽しみましたビートルズで有名なキャバーン・クラブキャバーン・クラブがあるマシュー・ストリートビートルズのメンバーの像リバプール博物館テート・リバプールは横浜の赤レンガ倉庫のような雰囲気でしたリバプール大聖堂シェイクスピア・ノース・プレイハウスここで観たイベントについてはこちらの記事に書きましたウォーカー・アート・ギャラリーにはリチャード三世を演じるギャリックの有名な絵がありました I visited Liverpool. I took photos of the Cavern Club, Mathew Street, and the statues of the members of The Beatles. I also visited Tate Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral, and Walker Art Gallery, where I saw the famous David Garrick as Richard III by William Hogarth. My first purpose of visiting Liverpool this time was to experience Shakespeare North Playhouse, which I found a wonderful venue.
