卒業アルバム / Yearbook

大学からイヤーブック（卒業アルバムのようなもの）が届きました。日本のものと異なるところがあり、面白いと思ったので記事にします。

まず、郵送される時期についてです。実はまだ修士論文の成績が出ておらず、修了できるかも分からないのに、イヤーブックが届き、早いなと思いました。日本では、卒業式の日に渡されるか、卒業式後に郵送されるか、どちらにしても卒業が決まってからです。

次に、掲載される写真についてです。私が今通っている大学に限った話かもしれませんが、載せてほしい顔写真を学生自身がアップロードするというやり方でした。それなので、証明写真を載せた学生から、普段の自然な写真を載せた学生、アプリを使った自撮りを載せた学生までいて、写真に統一感はありませんでした。日本では、小中高大いずれにしても、学校にカメラマンの人が来て撮影が行われるので、統一感があると思います。

写真とプロフィール（専攻や在籍年度、国籍など）の他に、"my philosophy"を書く欄もありました。人生観を表す名言のようなものですね。日本ではそれを問われることがなかなかないので、何を書こうか迷いました。人生観を問われるとは、西洋の大学らしいなと思いました。

I received a yearbook from the university that I attend. It was slightly different from Japanese one, so I wrote this post.

First, when it is published is strange for me. Actually, I haven't received the result of my dissertation yet and I don't know if I can graduate. It's so early to receive a yearbook. In Japan, we receive it on the day of the graduation, or it is posted after the day of the ceremony.

Next, the selection of students' photos is interesting. Each student uploaded the photo that he or she wants to be included in the yearbook. Some students used their ID photos, some chose natural photos taken in daily lives, and some uploaded selfies taken by beauty apps. In Japan, a photographer comes to schools (either primary, secondary, high schools or universities) to take photos of every student.

When I applied for the yearbook, I was asked "my philosophy" in addition to other information such as my major, the period I attended the university, and my nationality. It was hard for me to answer what is my philosophy, because it is not common to talk or write about one's philosophy in Japan.

レイディ・ベス＠日生劇場

2026年3月7日、日生劇場にて『レイディ・ベス』を観劇（3時間5分、休憩込み）。レイディ・ベス（エリザベス一世）が女王として即位するまでを描いたミュージカルです。「歴史ロマン」と謳われていて、プロットは確かにそうなのですが、細かい台詞や演技に目を向けると、家族への想いが丁寧に描かれた作品だと思いました。例えば、メアリーがベスを恐れるのは、王位を脅かす存在ということもありますが、ヘンリー八世、キャサリン・オブ・アラゴン、アン・ブーリンをめぐる家族の問題も背景にあったと思います。また、母のことを裏切り者と思っていたベスが、次第に母への考え方を変えていく様子も、主人公の心情の変化という点で、作品における重要な要素だったと思います。そのようなところに目を向けると、肩書きは「公」の立場であるメアリーやベスが、「私」的な部分を見せてくれたようで、心あたたまるミュージカルだったと思います。ちなみに、この家族を公／私の両方で見たくなるのは、2019年にシドニーで The Last Wife を観劇した時と同じだと気付きました。 On 7 March 2026, I saw and heard Lady Bess at Nissay Theatre in Tokyo. However, there was not only a political view but also a family matter: the relationship among Henry (their father), Catherine (Mary's mother), and Anne (Bess's mother). イエローヘルメッツイベントのお知らせ

シェイクスピア作品上演企画「イエローヘルメッツ」が、今年もゴールデンウィークにイベントを開催します！私は4月30日(木)と5月3日(日)の『ハムレット』原文朗読会で講師を務めます。シェイクスピアの台詞を英語で声に出して読むワークショップです。 4月30日(木)は、シェイクスピア入門講座～1幕1場を読んでみようという回です。 5月3日(日)は、ハムレットの有名な独白である"To be or not to be"を読む日です。どちらの日も、英語力や演技力ではなく、台詞の響きや登場人物の心理を体験することにフォーカスします。一緒に楽しく読みましょう！詳細は下の画像とこちらのリンクから！よろしくお願いいたします。

十二夜＠シアターχ

2026年2月17日、シアターχにて『十二夜』を観劇（2時間45分、休憩込み）。舞台セットの使い方、特に場面の転換が良かったです。90度ずつ（場面によっては45度ずつ）回転させることで、船にも屋敷にも庭にも見える舞台セットは万能だと思いました。特に好きだと思ったのは、第1幕第1場から第2場に移り変わる時でした。青い衣装を身につけた役者たちが、船に見立てたセットを動かすことで、難破を表現していたと思います。このような演出は、2023年に同じシアターχで上演された『ペリクリーズ』を思い出させるものでした。双子の再会の場面はいつも感動するのですが、今回は双子が海で離れ離れになる場面からグッときました。それはきっと、上記のような場面転換が上手く、役者の演技も相まって、ヴァイオラとセバスチャンの運命が動くことにドキリとしてしまったからだと思います。 On 17 February 2026, I saw and heard Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare at Theatre χ in Tokyo. I liked a versatile stage set; it looked like a ship, a house, or a garden, depending on its angle. Between act 1 scene 1 and scene 2 in particular, actors in blue, who looked like waves, moved the set to show a scene of a shipwreck. This direction reminded me of another production, Pericles , which was performed at the same venue in 2023.
