卒業式 / Graduation

イギリスの大学院（修士課程）を修了しました。これまで支えてくれた家族、応援してくれた友人、そしてご指導いただいた先生方に感謝申し上げます。ありがとうございました。

留学中は、研究活動と並行して、たくさん劇場に足を運びました。学校生活と観劇体験の両方を通して、私は舞台芸術や劇場が本当に好きなのだと改めて実感しました。帰国後は、留学で得た全ての物事を糧に、研究に励み、観劇を楽しみます。

I graduated from University of Birmingham and got my second MA degree. Thank you for everyone, especially my family, friends, and teachers.

While I was in England, I frequently went to theatres, with struggling with studying for classes and researching for the dissertation. Studying at the university and experiences at theatres made me realise that I am so passionate about "theatre" as drama and other genres of performing arts, and even "theatre" as an architecture. After I go back to Japan, I will do my best for researching and will enjoy theatre-going, remembering what I have learned and experienced in England.

このブログを見てくれてありがとうございます。Rena Endoです。日本に住みながら、イギリスの大学院の博士課程（ディスタンスラーニングコース）に所属しています。 It's Rena Endo, living in Japan but attending a British university by distance learning. Research / Activity イギリス演劇を研究する大学院生・大学講師として、劇場と教室を繋ぐ存在になりたいです。その目標のための、学会発表や論文投稿、劇場でのレクチャーについて、お知らせや報告をしていきます。 I'm a PhD student studying the English drama and a Japanese theatre industry. I also teach at universities. My ambition is to be active at a classroom and at a theatre; I encourage students to enjoy stage productions (in addition to studying by turning a page), and I give academic (but not-too-formal) lectures to theatre enthusiasts at a theatre. I write about such activities in this blog. 天保十二年のシェイクスピア＠日生劇場

2020年2月9日、日生劇場にて音楽劇『天保十二年のシェイクスピア』を観劇。最初の曲、最初の歌詞の「もしもシェイクスピアがいなかったら文学博士になり損ねた英文学者がずいぶん出ただろう」から心を持っていかれました。シェイクスピアの全戯曲が散りばめられた作品です。特定の登場人物や場面を思わせる部分から、ふわっとした「シェイクスピアあるある」まで、どこを取っても面白いと思える絵巻物的な作品でした。シェイクスピア作品は「二面性」や「曖昧さ」がキーワードだと、知っているつもりではいましたが、作者・井上ひさしの目を通して今回改めて気付かされました。もしも私が先生だったら、学生に見せたいな、なんて生意気なことを帰り道に考えてしまいました。

Design Museum

ロンドンにあるデザイン・ミュージアムへ行ってきました。4年前にロンドンを訪れた時、ここのお土産屋さんだけ立ち寄る時間があり、それだけでもカラフルで惹かれると思っていたので、今回ミュージアムの中も見ることが出来て良かったです。常設展示では、「デザイナー」「ユーザー」「メーカー」と3つの視点から色々なものが展示されていました。アートとしてのデザインだけでなく、広い意味で、人が何をどのようにつくり、どのように使ってきたのかをたどる展示でした。近代以降の人々の生活をたどる展示と言えるかもしれません。 I visited the Design Museum in London. Its permanent exhibition focuses on three perspectives: designer, user, and maker. It's not only about artistic designs but also about "what people made?" "how people have used them?" "what made lives more convenient?" and so on. Then, I thought the exhibition is about people's lives after Industrial Revolution.
