A rehearsal for "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle"

I was appointed as a reporter by HoriPro Inc., and I had a chance to visit and see a rehearsal for The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, a stage adaptation of a novel by Haruki Murakami.

The report of the rehearsal was published here! English follows Japanese.

Even if you are interested in Japanese theatre and novels or got interested in them by this report, I know it's hard for those who live overseas to visit Japan right now and see this production.

But still, I'm very glad if you could visit any Japanese theatre productions if you have a chance to come to Japan someday in the future.

天保十二年のシェイクスピア＠日生劇場

2020年2月9日、日生劇場にて音楽劇『天保十二年のシェイクスピア』を観劇。最初の曲、最初の歌詞の「もしもシェイクスピアがいなかったら文学博士になり損ねた英文学者がずいぶん出ただろう」から心を持っていかれました。シェイクスピアの全戯曲が散りばめられた作品です。特定の登場人物や場面を思わせる部分から、ふわっとした「シェイクスピアあるある」まで、どこを取っても面白いと思える絵巻物的な作品でした。シェイクスピア作品は「二面性」や「曖昧さ」がキーワードだと、知っているつもりではいましたが、作者・井上ひさしの目を通して今回改めて気付かされました。もしも私が先生だったら、学生に見せたいな、なんて生意気なことを帰り道に考えてしまいました。

Design Museum

ロンドンにあるデザイン・ミュージアムへ行ってきました。4年前にロンドンを訪れた時、ここのお土産屋さんだけ立ち寄る時間があり、それだけでもカラフルで惹かれると思っていたので、今回ミュージアムの中も見ることが出来て良かったです。常設展示では、「デザイナー」「ユーザー」「メーカー」と3つの視点から色々なものが展示されていました。アートとしてのデザインだけでなく、広い意味で、人が何をどのようにつくり、どのように使ってきたのかをたどる展示でした。近代以降の人々の生活をたどる展示と言えるかもしれません。 I visited the Design Museum in London. Its permanent exhibition focuses on three perspectives: designer, user, and maker. It's not only about artistic designs but also about "what people made?" "how people have used them?" "what made lives more convenient?" and so on. Then, I thought the exhibition is about people's lives after Industrial Revolution.
