くまのプーさん＠日本橋三井ホール

2024年5月4日、日本橋三井ホールにてミュージカル『くまのプーさん』を観劇（65分、休憩なし）。人形を使った舞台上演に興味があり、また、くまのプーさんが好きなので、楽しく観ることができました。

人形と人形使いの関係が良かったです。プーさんたちが主役なので、人形使いの方が目立ってはいけませんが、人形使いはある程度の表現を見せていました。例えば、人形の台詞や動きに合わせて、表情を変えたりしていました。このバランスは、人形使いが存在感を全く感じさせなかったMy Neighbour Tororo（2022年）とも、人間の役者と人形が共演していた『道化恐怖症』（2024年）とも異なるもので、人形劇（あるいは、人形が登場する上演）の幅広さを感じました。

くまのプーさんは幼少期から好きです。イギリス留学中には、ゆかりの地であるハートフィールドにも行きました。今回の上演では、ハートフィールドで見た橋などが再現されていて、嬉しかったです。

On 4 May 2024, I saw and heard a musical Winnie the Pooh at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo.

I'm interested in a production with puppets, and I like Winnie the Pooh, so I enjoyed the show.

The puppeteers' way of existence was interesting. They didn't stand out as much as puppets, but still, they had facial expressions behind the puppets. It was different from My Neighbour Totoro (2022), where the puppeteers were in black and they were supposed to be invisible, or a puppet show in Shimokitazawa (2024), where human actors and puppets were interactive to each other. There are various kinds of puppet shows (including productions performed by human actors and puppets together).

I have been a fan of Winnie the Pooh since I was little. While I was in England, I visited Hartfield, a so-called hometown of Winnie the Pooh. In this production, I was glad to see the stage had a bridge that looked like the one I saw in Hartfield.

大学院のウェルカムウィークに参加するため、バーミンガムに来ています。セッションの合間にフリータイムがあり、その時間を利用して、バーミンガム図書館という公共の図書館を訪れました。そこにはシェイクスピア・コレクションとシェイクスピア・メモリアル・ルームがあるため、行ってみたいとずっと思っていました。コレクションには、シェイクスピアの本、上演のポスター、写真など100,000点以上のアイテムが所蔵されているそうですが、いくつかのアイテムを見るためには予約が必要とのこと。今回私は研究者というより観光客目線で訪れたので、コレクションにはアクセスせず、一般公開されているメモリアル・ルームのみ見てきました。それだけでも面白かったです。まず、メモリアル・ルームは図書館の9階にあるのですが、そこに向かうエレベーターの中では『マクベス』の魔女の台詞が流れていました。Fair is foul and foul is fairの部分です。有名な台詞なので流したい気持ちは分かりますが、暗いエレベーターの中で聞こえるとびっくりしました(笑) そしていよいよメモリアル・ルームへ。意外と小さい部屋で、ハイライトを簡潔に紹介し、ピンポイントで見たい所蔵品があれば予約してねという入口として位置付けられる部屋だと思いました。それでも、紹介の文が書かれたパネルは読み応えがあるものでした。コレクションとメモリアル・ルームの紹介に始まり、公共図書館として一般に開かれてきたこと、フォリオの紹介、シェイクスピアの私生活とキャリア、アイコンとしてのシェイクスピアなど色々書かれていました。その他にも、美術、印刷、言葉、音楽、そして上演といった視点からのシェイクスピアについてのパネルがあり、シェイクスピアを楽しむ人がどの角度から楽しんでも良いのだなという幅広さを感じました。ハイライトとして紹介されていたものの中に、1972年8月に日生劇場で上演された『ハムレット』のポスターがあり、日本でのシェイクスピアの人気（それをイギリスのコレクションが知っていること）を実感しました。また、メモリアル・ルームの雰囲気も素敵で、ワシントンDCにあるフォルジャー・シェイクスピア・ライブラリーと似ていると思いました。メモリアル・ルームを見る前後に、9階からバーミンガムの景色を一望できました✨ I visited the Libr...

このブログを見てくれてありがとうございます。Rena Endoです。日本に住みながら、イギリスの大学院の博士課程（ディスタンスラーニングコース）に所属しています。 It's Rena Endo, living in Japan but attending a British university by distance learning. Research / Activity イギリス演劇を研究する大学院生・大学講師として、劇場と教室を繋ぐ存在になりたいです。その目標のための、学会発表や論文投稿、劇場でのレクチャーについて、お知らせや報告をしていきます。 I'm a PhD student studying the English drama and a Japanese theatre industry. I also teach at universities. Legally Blonde at Stratford Play House

2022年5月7日、Stratford Play Houseにて Legally Blonde を観劇（2時間35分、休憩込み）。日本では『キューティ・ブロンド』として知られるミュージカルです。英題と邦題でタイトルが異なっていたので初めは気付きませんでしたが、あらすじを読んだ時に既視感があったので調べてみたら、同一作品だと分かりました。 Stratford Play Houseは、高さのない舞台を6列の客席が3方向から囲うという、小規模な劇場でした。日本での上演はシアタークリエなどで行われていたので、劇場の規模や形に左右されずに上演できるというこの作品の可能性に驚きました。この上演は、Stratford Musical Theatre Companyという劇団によるものでした。地元の劇団、応援したくなります！ On 7 May 2022, I saw and heard a musical Legally Blonde at Stratford Play House. In Japan, the musical is called Cutie Blonde , so I was surprised when I knew that they were the same musical. Stratford Play House is a small theatre which has six-row seats and is polygonal. In Japan, the musical was performed at large proscenium theatres. I admired that the musical had potential of being performed regardless size and shape of a theatre.
