2026年7月1日、たましんRISURUホールにて『聖なる炎』を観劇（2時間40分、休憩込み）。2023年に俳優座劇場で観劇した時から好きだと思っていたので、また観ることができて嬉しかったです。
劇中の台詞にあるように、人間は矛盾を抱えていたり、二面性があったりします。事故により半身不随になったモーリスは、無理に明るく振る舞いますが、弱音を吐ける相手には弱いところを見せていました。モーリスの妻のステラは、彼を裏切る行為をするけれど、完全な悪人ではなく、かなりの葛藤を見せていました。モーリスの世話をする看護婦（今回の上演では「看護婦」という表現が使われていました）は、一見冷たい人物ですが、人を愛する気持ち、思いやりの心、相手を尊敬すること、などは忘れていません。そういった矛盾や二面性を見られるのは、演劇ならではのことで面白いです。さらに、そういった「ずれ」が違和感にならなかったのは、役者の演技が丁寧だったからだと思います。
このキャスティングで、好きな作品の再演を観ることができて良かったです！
On 1 July 2026, I saw and heard The Sacred Flame by William Somerset Maugham at Tamashin Risuru Hall (Tachikawa Civic Hall) in Tokyo. I saw the play in 2023 at another venue but with the same company, and I liked the play since then. I was glad to see it again.
As a character says in the play, anyone has contradictions. In this play, for example, Maurice, who got seriously injured by a plane crash, tries to be cheerful or sometimes too blithe. In fact, however, he is depressed about the hard life due to the injury. His wife, Stella, betrays him but feels guilty, thus she is not pure evil. A nurse is a strict woman, but she has emotions such as love, kindness and respect, although she doesn't show them easily. Such a contradiction or complexity in each character is interesting when seeing as a play in particular. Also, such a gap in each character didn't look strange - rather, it did look comfortable or even heartwarming. I think that's because of actors' skilled acting.
